What is Schizophrenia?
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder classified as a thought disorder, characterized by a loss of reality and/or the perception of sounds or visions as if they were not there. Schizophrenia is characterized by a disturbance in the way a person thinks, acts, and feels, and is characterized by delusions and hallucinations. Schizophrenia is a progressive disorder that can be difficult to treat, with symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and social withdrawal.

The exact cause of schizophrenia is unknown. Genetic factors, brain chemistry and structure, nervous system and emotional factors such as stress have been implicated in the development of schizophrenia. There is a lot of evidence for this. Recent studies have suggested that there is a link between maternal infection (such as toxoplasmosis and rubella) and schizophrenia in the fetus, which is associated with brain development problems. Maternal or fetal infection during pregnancy may increase the risk of the fetus developing schizophrenia.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Generalized anxiety disorder is a mental disorder characterized by excessive worry about everyday life, but it usually does not cause persistent fear in others. For example, a person with generalized anxiety disorder may worry that someone will accidentally drop a heavy object from an upstairs window while they are on their way to work, which could knock them unconscious or make them worse. While this can happen, it is very unlikely. Generalized anxiety disorder can also cause frequent heart palpitations or obsessive, worrying thoughts.

Dual diagnosis
Anxiety disorders often occur alongside other mental health or physical conditions that mask anxiety symptoms and make them worse. In addition, people with anxiety disorders are more likely to use or abuse alcohol or drugs in an attempt to self-medicate their anxiety. This is called dual diagnosis, which refers to the coexistence of an anxiety disorder and a substance use disorder. Nisarga care Life Skills is duly qualified to treat patients with a dual diagnosis, meaning they have a substance use disorder and another mental health disorder, including anxiety. We offer a dedicated substance use disorder treatment pathway that combines the 12-step philosophy for chemical dependency with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). DBT modules in this pathway include mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal efficacy. The goals of the substance use disorder treatment pathway are to learn new skills, focus on the present moment, improve interpersonal efficacy, emotional regulation, and live a positive life.
